ABOUT

ABOUT

Brendan Morrissy is an emerging fashion designer whose work explores the relationship between fashion, art, history, and human experience. His interest in design began through creating Halloween costumes as a child, an early outlet for creativity while his life remained heavily centered around athletics.

After moving to Detroit and later returning to the New York area, Morrissy pursued fashion professionally at Parsons School of Design, alongside study at Central Saint Martins in London. He is currently working toward his Bachelor's in Fashion Design, exploring disciplines including womenswear, fashion illustration, product design, and collectionwear.

His practice is driven by storytelling and the transformation of unconventional references into garments and objects. His work includes the Romanticization of the Strait-Jacket, trousers inspired by Malcolm X and the concepts of fall and revival, The Dress, and a series of bone-inspired politically charged objects including the Bone Bag, Skin Lamp, and Skin Wallet.

Across his work, Morrissy challenges conventional ideas of what fashion can represent, often transforming darker, historical, or emotionally charged subjects into wearable and functional forms. His practice continues to move between fashion, accessory, and object design, with an emphasis on experimentation, symbolism, and narrative.

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

A heraldic shield featuring a red lion on a gray background with a perpendicular red cross. The shield is topped with a decorative helmet and surrounded by a scroll banner with Latin words: 'TEMPERANTIA', 'FIDUCIA', 'CONSTANTIA', and 'ELIDUCIA'.

Beginning in 2024, Brendan began developing his approach to fashion through a series of self-directed looks, eventually culminating in six outfits presented at the Kent School Fashion Runway. Drawing from influences ranging from Western ranchwear to artists such as Jamiroquai, this period became an exploration of different identities, aesthetics, and approaches to clothing — ultimately beginning the search for his own visual language.

From 2024–2028, while studying Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design in New York City, Morrissy began developing a more experimental approach to clothing. His work increasingly explored themes of mental health, restriction, identity, and the relationship between the body and garment, leading to pieces such as The Romanticization of the Straitjacket. Parsons became a space to develop not only his conceptual thinking, but also the technical foundations of his practice — pattern making, draping, construction, and garment development.

Upon studying abroad in the United Kingdom, Morrissy attended Central Saint Martins at the University of the Arts London, focusing his studies on Womenswear. The experience pushed his design methodology further toward experimentation, encouraging an approach that embraces the unconventional and challenges the expected relationship between garment and body. His work continues to move toward the “weird” — creating clothing intended not only to catch the eye, but to provoke thought.
